AFTERCARE

While your extensions are made of human hair, they do require a slightly different treatment compared to your natural hair. Regular maintenance is necessary to keep your extensions looking their best. Once you become familiar with the proper techniques for washing, styling, and drying your extensions, they will remain in great condition for a longer period. The effort you put into caring for them is worthwhile!

DOs

- Brush your hair daily, paying special attention to the roots.
- Use your fingers to separate the hair extension bonds and prevent matting.
- Only use recommended brushes and products.
- Sleep with your hair in a loose ponytail or braid.
- Wash your hair in an upright position.
- If you have an oily scalp, wash your hair regularly.
- Use shampoos formulated for colored, normal, or fine hair.
- Apply conditioner from midshaft to ends only.
- Rinse your hair thoroughly after washing.
- Gently brush damp hair.
- Minimize the use of hot styling tools.
- Always use heat protection products.
- Avoid salty or chlorinated water when swimming.
- Have a trained stylist color your hair.
- Schedule a refit appointment every 2-3 months.
- Do not remove the extensions yourself.
- Arrive for appointments with freshly washed hair.

DONTs

- Avoid tying your hair tightly for the first 2 weeks after application.
- Never use a brush with stiff teeth near the bonds.
- Try not to wash your hair more than 2-3 times per week.
- Do not use shampoos intended for dry, damaged hair.
- Avoid shampoos containing fruit acid, oil, and 2-in-1s.
- Don't wash your hair lying down in the bath.
- Avoid washing your hair in circular motions or rubbing the hair together, as this can cause tangles and matting.
- When towel-drying, gently squeeze your hair instead of rubbing it vigorously.
- Never use conditioner, mask, or oil near the bonds.
- Avoid going to bed with wet hair.
- Be cautious with heat styling tools near the rings and bonds, as keratin can melt. Don't use any styling tool over 180 degrees.
- Never dye or chemically process your hair at home.
- Do not attempt to remove the extensions yourself.
- Don't allow your hair to remain dirty and oily for long, as the buildup of natural oils can cause strands to slip or fall out.

BRUSHING

- Brush your hair daily, paying special attention to the roots.
- Use a brush with a mixture of nylon and boar bristles; other brushes with hard teeth can cause breakage.
- Brush your extensions in small sections and hold the hair just above the area you are brushing to ensure there is no added stress on your hair.
- Start brushing from the bottom and gently work your way up to the root to remove any knots.
- Remember, the average person loses between 70-100 natural hairs a day, some more than this! Therefore, it’s essential to separate your hair by brushing and using your fingers when washing so that any loose hairs can come away and prevent matting.

WASHING

- Before washing, I suggest brushing your hair extensions thoroughly to remove any teasing or tangles.
- When you wash your hair, avoid tipping your head over your bath. Wash them with the head upright.
- The hair should be gently massaged on the scalp with your fingertips, using a light up and down motion. Do not wash the hair in circular motions (never rub the hair together) as these can cause tangles or even matting.
- Use shampoos formulated for colored, normal, or fine hair.
- Avoid shampoos containing fruit acid, oil, and 2-in-1 shampoos. These shampoos can damage the extension bonds, making the extensions looser and resulting in them sliding off.
- You should not wash your hair more than 2-3 times per week. Washing it more than this will stress your extensions due to excessive styling.
- If you have an oily scalp, wash your hair more often as the buildup of natural oils could lead to your strands slipping or falling out.

CONDITIONING

- Conditioner should be used only from the mid-length of the hair until the ends.
- Leave it on for at least 5 minutes before rinsing.
- Do not apply conditioner or anything oily to your bonds or the rings. This could make your extensions loose and result in them slipping off.
- Ensure that you rinse the product out thoroughly so that it doesn’t accumulate on the hair.
- Use a leave-in conditioner or serum regularly to keep your hair extensions moisturized.

DRYING

- Never rub, scrub, or wrap your hair with a towel.
- Let your hair air dry for about 30 minutes before blow-drying.
- Hair is always weak when wet, so handle it gently and carefully.
- Always use heat protection products before drying.
- When using a hairdryer, dry your roots first using a low heat setting.
- Section the hair and then blow-dry with a soft bristle round brush or hair extensions brush for a sleek finish.
- Avoid excessive pulling when drying as this could loosen the extensions.
- Ensure all bonds are completely dry.

COLOURING

- If you choose to dye your hair extensions, ensure you use a trained stylist to color your hair correctly.
- Always perform a strand test before coloring.
- Do not use a peroxide level higher than 6%.
- AJ Hair Extensions cannot be responsible for any incorrect coloring or damage to your hair during the coloring process.
- Results cannot be guaranteed as hair extensions have already undergone color processing and have a different history than your hair.
- If you have foils or bleach, I recommend having your hairline and T-section done.

To secure a hair extension service appointment, a non-refundable deposit is required. Please ensure you have thoroughly researched the service before booking. If you are unsure about the best application method for your natural hair and lifestyle or need a colour match, consider booking a face-to-face consultation before committing to a fitting appointment.

As all our hair extensions are bespoke and tailored to meet each client's unique requirements, we regret to inform you that we cannot offer exchanges or refunds once the deposit has been paid and the hair extension has been processed for application.

Ensuring the satisfaction and happiness of all clients is a priority, and I am committed to resolving any problems to the best of my ability. Please note that I cannot take responsibility for issues that arise if a visit has not been arranged within one week, or if the problem is attributed to incorrect aftercare, services from another salon, or involvement by a third party.

We cannot accept responsibility if the extensions are removed elsewhere or by yourself, as this could compromise the health of your hair, scalp, or extensions. Please ensure that removal is carried out by AJ hair extensions for the best results and your well-being.
